ДСНС показала наслідки російського удару по школі в Комишувасі, де був гуманітарний хаб: кількість загиблих зросла до 24
What happened
The death toll from Russian strikes on a school in Komyshuvakha, in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, has risen to 24, including two rescuers and four police officers, Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS) said.
Five more people were wounded, two of them rescuers, according to DSNS.
Russian forces hit the school on the morning of 2 November, and when responders arrived there was a threat of a second attack, DSNS head Andrii Danyk said.
Rescuers took cover, but the enemy struck the same spot again, destroying a gym and an outbuilding and a fire engine, and damaging the school building.
Police said the officers were helping residents into an underground school that served as a shelter, and that the repeat strike trapped everyone inside.
The two dead rescuers were Denys Konovalenko and Oleksii Sushchevskyi, both 44, who had 12 and 13 years of service in civil protection respectively.
“Today Zaporizhzhia district went through a terrible tragedy. We lost two of our colleagues, and two more are wounded and in hospital.”
