One foreigner killed as two helicopters collide in Solukhumbu
What happened
Two helicopters collided as they landed at Pheriche in Nepal's Solukhumbu district on Nov. 3, killing one Indian national and injuring a New Zealand resident.
The dead man was identified as Vasanth Kumar Balaramaramadu, who was flying in the Fishtail Air helicopter, Police Inspector Mausam Tamang said.
The injured passenger, 49-year-old Shailesh Krishna Patel, lives in New Zealand and is of Indian origin; a Prabhu Helicopter flew him to Mediciti Hospital in Kathmandu, Tamang said.
Both Nepalese pilots were hurt as well and were moved to Kathmandu for further treatment, according to Nepal Police.
Fishtail Air said its helicopter was carrying passengers rescued from the Everest region, and the crash happened during peak trekking season.
Police have not confirmed how many passengers were aboard the two aircraft and are still gathering details.
