Mother and daughter both killed in grizzly bear attack, Canadian authorities confirm
What happened
A mother and her 20-year-old daughter were killed in a suspected grizzly bear attack near Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canadian authorities confirmed.
Jenny Balcarras and Selah Reed were reported missing after a short afternoon walk, and conservation officers and police found their remains on a trail area over two days.
Inspector Jeff Tyre of the BC Conservation Officer Service said officers are investigating whether more than one bear was involved.
Any bear that is captured will be assessed and, if linked to the attack, killed under provincial guidelines, he said.
Balcarras, an art therapist, had recently moved to Bella Coola for a new job and is survived by three adult children and a grandchild, according to a family fundraiser.
