Hong Kong to sentence activist Joshua Wong on Nov 5
What happened
A Hong Kong court sentenced activist Joshua Wong to 10 years in prison for foreign collusion under the national security law.
The sentence will run concurrently with the rest of his four-year, eight-month term for conspiracy to commit subversion, imposed in November 2024.
Wong has been in detention since December 2020 and was due for release in January 2027.
Wong's lawyer had pushed for a lighter sentence of three to 10 years.
“It’s incredibly sad to see my friend Joshua Wong suffer another sentencing over his peaceful advocacy work for Hong Kong’s democracy.”
