New liquor shops in Bengal must maintain 500-metre gap from schools, religious places

In a bid to regulate the liquor trade, the West Bengal government has raised the distance criteria for new liquor outlets from educational institutions and places of worship. Urban areas will now need to maintain a 500-meter distance, while rural areas must ensure a full kilometer.
