Carrick tells players ‘hard truth’ in attempt to turn Manchester United’s season around
What happened
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick said he has held blunt talks with club bosses and players as his winless side prepares to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
United are 16th in the Premier League, one point clear of the drop zone, and have gone eight games without a win.
Carrick kept his job after last Sunday's 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth, which put his position under threat, according to the Guardian.
He indicated that he spoke this week with director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.
Captain Bruno Fernandes returns to the starting lineup after Carrick left him out against Bournemouth, following Fernandes' criticism of tactics after a 4-1 loss at Como, CNA reported.
Chelsea, who are fifth, lost 2-0 to Tottenham and went out of the League Cup on penalties to Liverpool on Wednesday.
“It's the truth, it's the hard truth at times and it's what we need to move forward.”
